Do you know your assignments and due dates?

Your page is totally your responsibility. You need photos and words for your page. You have to get them and put them on your page by your deadline. 

You are the best and brightest. Now prove it: 

1. Candids_checkout camera in morning and shoot during day. Bring back at end of day.

2.There will be lots of deadlines after fall break. Be sure you are ready. Missed deadlines will really impact your grade.

3. Get your job done, even if it means coming in after school, over fall break, or on a Saturday.

• I will take freshman football and cross country action today, I hope. Did not happen.

• Check your camera battery today. If it needs to be recharged, tell me.

• If not, get it. If you need the names of all the players, how will you get that?
• Email me if you need photos. stephen.campbell@mnps.org .If you need 3 candids, tell me you need 3 candids. Tell me specifically what you need. If I have them, I will get them for you over the fall break.

Make folders within folders....candids, school life, sports, etc. 

Delete bad photos from the SD cards.

Fall sports photos, team/group and candids, need to be finished by September 15.

The white Nikons cost $500.00. Protect your cameras. Keep the strap around your neck. Do not allow other students to handle our cameras.

Course Description:

This course is designed to teach the skills necessary to produce the school yearbook, which offers a complete record of an entire school year.  The year begins by planning the coverage for the school year and generating theme for the book.  Students will become familiar with layout and design techniques, writing and editing copy, picture captions, photojournalism and journalistic writing.

Teaching Methods:

Lectures/Demonstrations/Discussion:  Each class begins with a staff meeting, guided by the teacher and editors. This includes a discussion of the work assigned. You should plan to take careful notes.

Assignments: Individually and in teams, staff members are assigned yearbook pages to produce and proof for errors.

Exams: Two exams will be given.

Grading:

All grades are connected to Journalism Standards (see below)

Weekly grades are given in the following categories:

Time sheets: You will complete and turn in a time sheet documenting what you have done in terms of work for the yearbook. Your individual and group grade will be determined based on your documentation.

Grades are connected to the standards below. You will receive at least three grades each week, one individual and one group, based on the following rubric:

4 (100-93) Completes assigned work correctly, on time, and undertakes additional work. Work is documented. Advanced performance of standards.

3 (92-85) Completes assigned work adequately and on time. Proficient performance of standards. 

2 (84-75) Assigned work is completed, and on time, but requires minor corrections. Basic performance of standards.

1 (74 and below) Assigned work is completed after deadlines and/or requires major corrections. Below basic performance of standards.

Journalism Standards(3008): Grades 9-12

Content Standard:

The student will understand and utilize oral, written, and visual communication.

Goal Statement:

The primary goal of any journalism program should be for students to improve oral and written communication skills. Many high school students seek opportunities to explore career possibilities in the media. Journalism programs should offer students many opportunities to excel in a variety of areas.

Learning Expectations:

Oral

•Demonstrate speaking, listening, and research skills which will facilitate interviewing and other oral communication activities.

•Demonstrate appropriate language skills, demeanor, and attire to cultivate success and good public relations.

•Demonstrate appropriate interviewing techniques.

•Apply terms and expressions common to the industry to speaking, listening, and writing

activities.

 •Apply legal and ethical journalistic standards to all journalism activities.

Written

•Demonstrate appropriate language usage skills and research techniques.

•Demonstrate editing and revision techniques to produce work suitable for publication/

Visual

•Exhibit a working knowledge for roles and procedures of management and production of various media.

•Demonstrate knowledge of business management including advertising, circulation, and/or bookkeeping procedures.

•Understand and utilize standard principles of related areas to enhance visual appeal.

 •Create visual effects by utilizing graphic designs, either technologically generated (if available)

or original work.

•Demonstrate knowledge of layout and design procedures by incorporating consistency of style

using a desktop publishing system (if available), traditional methods, or a combination of both techniques.
