september 14

Two very important ongoing jobs:
1. Faculty section_which photo teachers want for yearbook + a little more. Two people.
2. Backing up the six computers dedicated to yearbook class. Two people. Leigh Hampton and

Backgrounds_Roy Lichtenstein

Check Gradespeed. If a grade is incorrect from last week, tell me so I can fix it today.

Fill time sheets out completely. I will grade timesheets and ACT words next week. No ACT words for Friday. Only two this week. This will be two weeks work. Do not put his off. Keep up today. We SHOULD be busy next week.

Not everyone signed contracts.

Assignments are due when they are due. Absences are an excuse. There may be other valid excuses. Just not completing and turning in the assignment is not an excuse. The grade will remain a zero.

For the September 15 and 16 shoot, I need:
Signs A-H and I-Z
Easels
Clipboards
Sharpies attached to clipboards
Sort cards
Set up table in auditorium

final exam_review

The Yearbook Final Exam will be a persuasive essay that discusses whether or not a particular yearbook meets the criteria of "good journalism".

Journalism is the discipline of gathering, writing and reporting news, and broadly it includes the process of editing and presenting the news articles. Journalism applies to various media such as magazines, newspapers, radio, television, and web sites.

In journalism, the Five W’s (also known as the Five W’s (and one H) or simply the Six W’s) is a concept in news style, research, and in police investigations that are regarded as basics in information-gathering. It is a formula for getting the “full” story on something. The maxim of the Five W’s (and one H) is that in order for a report to be considered complete it must answer a checklist of six questions, each of which comprises an interrogative word.

The Five W’s + H are who, what, when, where, why and how. A good piece of journalism should contain all of this information.

A yearbook should tell the story of the school year. With all of the above in mind, you will select a copy of a Hillwood High School yearbook and write an essay describing whether or not his yearbook represents good journalism. Your essay should be similar to the essays you write in English class.

Your grade will be determined using a rubric that includes the rubric used in the TCAP writing assessment.

Refer to the links in the column to the right to help you with your essay.
